49ers | Kassim Osgood may not make roster

San Francisco 49ers WR Kassim Osgood may not make the final roster even though he is valuable special teams player because of the number of wide receivers that will be competing for roster spots.

Footballguys View: The 49ers have a logjam at wide receiver. We’d be surprised if Osgood made the final roster. Even if he does make the team, Osgood won’t be any sort of fantasy factor.

Raiders | David Ausberry impressed during offseason workouts

Oakland Raiders TE David Ausberry was the leading tight end in the offseason workouts, according to ESPN.com’s Paul Gutierrez.

Footballguys View: He’s an intimidating presence on the football field with the ability to be a decent move tight end. Ausberry is fully recovered from the shoulder injury, which cost him the 2013 season. He will compete with second-year TE Mychal Rivera for targets.

Buccaneers | Teammate compares Josh McCown to Drew Brees

Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jonathan Casillas said QB Josh McCown reminds him of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, who Casillas played with when he was with the Saints from 2009 to 2012. ‘It’s a strong comparison, but he reminds me of Drew (Brees), not just the way he throws the ball, but his approach to the game. The first one in, the last one out, he’s always around. He’s very communicable, very personable. And you can tell he’s a born leader,’ Casillas said.

Eagles | Allen Barbre could start at RT

Philadelphia Eagles OT Allen Barbre could start at right tackle if OT Lane Johnson is suspended four games for violating the policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Footballguys View: That would be the best move for the Eagles. The team recently signed Barbre to a three-year extension, and he’s got plenty of experience as a pro. It is a downgrade from what Johnson brings to the field, but they won’t be falling off a cliff by starting Barbre.

Eagles | No suspension for Lane Johnson yet

Updating a previous report, the NFL has not suspended Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson four games for violating the policy on performance-enhancing drugs at this point, according to an NFL spokesperson.

Footballguys View: “At this point” is the key phrasing here. It sounds like there’s something coming down the mountain for Johnson. We’re likely to see the league’s decision in the near future.
